Explore Holland with this map of Holland
The Netherlands are often mistakenly referred to as Holland, but in reality, Holland is located in the western region of the Netherlands. It is divided into two provinces, namely South Holland and North Holland and is home to three of the major cities in the Netherlands. These large cities, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague, are also the most popular destinations for tourists, and Rotterdam is known world wide for having the biggest port in Europe. Tourist, though interested in the larger cities, also prefer to head out into the country side, to marvel at the endless rows of tulips and spectacular windmills that Holland is generally associated with.
As with most modernized cities and countries, there is more to Holland than meets the eye. Cities offer visitors museums and historical attractions, but if it is traditional living that visitors are after, they should research destinations such as Volendam on a map, and other quaint villages, where windmills, cheese and clog wearing locals can be found. Holland is a destination that provides visitors with a variety of historical sites, natural beauty and fascinating adventures to enjoy.
